| This concerns a conversation with a traditional 'milkman', about arranging home delivery of milk or yogurt. The term gu:r also means 'milkman'. The use of bottled milk is still restricted to a few areas in Srinagar and some nearby towns. A brief discussion on prices etc. is also included. |
Ashok: How much is a kilo of milk?
Milkman: Two rupees, sir.
Ashok: Milk or yogurt?
Milkman: Yes, milk and yogurt both sell for two rupees a kilo.
Ashok: What price is the cheese?
Milkman: Five rupees a kilo.
Ashok: Do you have home delivery of milk?
Milkman: Yes, every morning. Where do you live?
Ashok: In the white house, right here near the bend.
Milkman: We'll deliver it for you. How much do you want?
Ashok: One kilo of milk and one kilo of yogurt.
Milkman: Very well, sir.
Ashok: Do you want a deposit?
Milkman: No, we shall keep a monthly account and send you the bill each month.
Ashok: Fine, thank you. |
