Profile

  • Born at Dembi Mohalla, Kralyar, Rainawari.

  • Parents:  Late Pandit Madhusudhan Kaul and  Late Smt. Shubhawati Kaul nee  Pahalwan

  • Spouse: Smt. Sheela Tiku

  • Son: Nilay Dembi settled at Mumbai.

  • National Diploma in Fine Arts from School of Art, Delhi Polytechnic now known as The College of Art. During this period some of the most profound personalities in the field of art were member of the faculty. Stalwarts like Prof. B.C. Sanyal, Sailoz Mukherjea, Somenath Hore, K.K. Sen, Prof. Dinker Kaushik, Biren De, Jaya Appaswamy, Dhanraj Bhagat and Prof. M.L. Duttagupta

  • Received Government of India’s National Scholarship during 1965-67.

  • Founding Member of THE SIX: It was in the third year, that, six friends, namely, Umesh Varma, Manjit Bawa, Jagdish Dey, Neelmoni Chatterjee, Durga Prasad and Gokal Dembi organized a group show titled "The Six" at the AIFACS. This turned out to be a very successful exhibition and was greatly appreciated and encouraged by the senior artists, including the press.

  • Co-member of Delhi Shilpi chakra and Gallery-26.

  • Incharge, Department of Fine Arts, Institute of Music and Fine Arts, Srinagar. Now retired.
