 Dr. Nirmala (Dhar) Mitra was born in Saffakadal, Srinagar, daughter of Shri Janki Nath and Jwalaji Dhar. She graduated from Srinagar Medical College. She completed M.D. in Pediatrics from Maulana Azad Medical College, New Delhi. She met her husband, Raghu Mitra there. She came to New York in 1972 and has specialized in Pediatric Neurology, receiving her training from SUNY Downstate in Brooklyn.
She currently has a private practice in Huntington, New York. She is also in charge of Department of Pediatric Neurology at Wyckoff Hospital in Brooklyn. She has two grown up daughters and two grandchildren, Sandhya and Chaya. In addition to work, she enjoys music, tennis, yoga. She has been involved in various charitable organizations in India, including sponsoring three needy students in Jammu each year through KOA. |
