Sixth Kargil martyr from Amritsar district cremated 

AMRITSAR: Naik Kuldip Singh of 19 Rifles Regiment, the sixth Kargil martyr from Amritsar district, was on Tuesday cremated with full military honours at his native Kang Kalan village near the historic town of Goindwal. 

Punjab minister for animal husbandry Rattan Singh and senior Army officials laid wreaths on the body of the jawan. 

A contingent of the 14 Rifles Regiment paid a guard of honour by firing in the air. A large number of villagers from adjoining villages also attended the cremation. 

The body of Naik Singh was airlifted to Jammu from Srinagar on Monday and later brought to his village by road. 

Naik Singh, (28), left behind his old parents, Swaran Singh and Bachan Kaur, two children and wife Kulwant Kaur and three brothers. 

A choked Swaran Singh told senior Army officials that he was ready to send his other three sons to the Army if the country needed their services. 

Hav Baldev Singh, who was cremated in his village Bhuller in Tarn Taran area on Monday with full military honours, was the fifth Kargil martyr from Amritsar district. (PTI)
