KOA Youth Corner


EVENTS & PROGRAMS

OBJECTIVES
  • To start Youth based Programs at the Zonal and National Level
  • To enable the youth members from our Community take Leadership roles within the Community
  • To network and help each other out through Mentor Mentee programs
  • To hang out and have fun..The Kashir Youth Way!!
Activities
  • Meetings
    • Setup and invitations : prepares agenda, sets up google hangouts and youtube stream, sends invitation and makes sure of participation and smooth running of program.
    • Moderator : Makes sure the discussions are based on agenda. Takes questions from audience and addresses them
    • Minutes Master : Notes the action items and goes through them at the end of the session. Builds on previous action items.
    • Media advertiser : Publishes meetings well beforehand, advertises before/during/after event. Publishes the recordings, newsletter, minutes after session
  • Koshur (Zone 4 language lesson and Zone 7 monthly program)
    • Setup, invitations and moderator : Need one volunteer for each zone 4 and 7 to take ownership. takes questions and answers them online
    • Media advertiser
    • Video & audio expert : Need a volunteer to edit videos and equalize audio and place banners, text, title etc in the videos. Clip videos based on time and relevant content
  • Kath-e-Baath (Showcase youth talent, ideas and discussion)
    • Setup, invitations and host : Invite guest and guest’s friend, setup hangout/youtube stream
    • Prepare interview questions : Research and prepare questions
    • Video & audio expert 
    • Media advertiser 
  • Sharadapeeth (Religious lectures)
    • Setup, invitation and moderator: Invite and set-up appointment and youtube/hangout with religious speaker
    • Media advertiser

  • Kaar-Baar
    • Same as above

Nisha Quasba is a Healthcare Consultant/Lobbyist. Her favorite part about KOA is how many amazing Kashmiri people she has met all over the country through KOA. She believes it is a very unique friendship where you know you are rare but share so many commonalities. Any gathering you know you will pick up right where you left off from. All the reps have become family to her and she would not have it any other way.

Megha Koul – Zone 2

Megha Koul is a recent Biology and Spanish graduate of Northeastern University as well as a Clinical Research Assistant. Her favorite part about KOA is the service and advocacy opportunities that KOA offers. Being a part of KOA has allowed her to give back to our community in the US and abroad. She truly enjoys being able to meet so many new people across the country who share a similar identity and background.

Fun Fact: She can fluently speak 4 languages.

Shubhankar Peshin-Zone 3

Shubhankar Peshin is a Management Consulting Analyst at Accenture. His favorite part about KOA is that because everyone’s cultural upbringing is so similar, it doesn’t take long for any KP to feel like they’re amongst family.

Fun Fact: He can whistle classical music.

Umeka Ganjoo – Zone 3

Umeka Ganjoo is a Master of Health Administration Candidate at University of Pittsburgh & Staff at University of Pittsburgh. Her favorite part about KOA is the enthusiasm across a lifespan to preserve the KP culture and language.

Fun Fact: Over the summer of 2020, she successfully mastered the art of propagating basil.

Heeya Trisal – Zone 4

Heeya Trisal is a Data Science and Analytics Masters of Professional Studies student at University of Maryland, College Park. Her favorite part about KOA is the inspiring, close knit community she’s had the privilege to grow up in and the relationships she’s made since starting to work under KOA.

Fun Fact: She was born in Jammu and became a US citizen her freshman year of college.

Rohit Raina – Zone 5

Rohit Raina is a Research Assistant at Baylor College of Medicine. His favorite part of KOA is the family aspect and meeting everyone at KOA camps.

Fun Fact: Roger Federer has retweeted one of his tweets before.

Neel Bhan – Zone 5

Neel Bhan is an Internal Medicine Resident Physician. His favorite part about KOA is having a group of friends who he feels super comfortable bringing out his inner Koshur Bhatta around. He feels as if he doesn’t have to explain certain things to them the way he does with other friends- even desi ones. Within KOA, he has found people with similar passions for community rebuilding and political advocacy, which is very fulfilling.

Fun Fact: He once backpacked and volunteered at an NGO in the Himalayas (Himachal Pradesh) for 6 months.

Rhea Raina – Zone 5

Rhea Raina is a student at The University of Texas at Dallas. Her favorite part about KOA is the immediate connection KOA members feel when meeting at camp. She believes camp is what brings everyone together and it is such a special time for her. She has always cherished all of the youth coming together and building new relationships.

Fun Fact: When she started dancing again upon the summer of entering 6th grade, it took her 3 years to get her right splits.

Arushi Kotru – Zone 6

Arushi Kotru is a Sophomore at The University of Alabama at Birmingham. Her favorite part about KOA is the KP bond and determination of the youth in the ongoing fight to preserve our culture and story.

Fun Fact: Her 4-year-old handprint and name is in the concrete outside of the preschool she attended.

Roshni Koul – Zone 7

Roshni Koul is a Senior Honors student and Anthropology major/Biology minor on the pre-medicine track at Loyola University Chicago. Her favorite part about KOA is activism and advocacy for KP rights.

Fun Fact: She has a B.A. in Hindustani Classical Sangeet.

Pooja Chaku – Zone 8

Pooja Chaku is a Software Developer at Veoneer. Her favorite part about KOA is meeting the youth and creating immediate connections that she has never experienced before.

Fun Fact: When she was young, she broke her arm from falling off of a stuffed animal.

Karan Bazaz – Zone 9

Karan Bazaz is a Software Engineer at Microsoft. His favorite part about KOA is how it has made him closer and more connected to so many Kashmiris- especially the youth.

Fun Fact: He can do 6 different types of yoga inversions.
